Let the First Blogger to Die in Prison be the Last

Iran -- Broken personal computer (PC) during clashes between supporters of Iran's defeated presidential candidate Mir Hossein Musavi with security forces, Jun2009
The March 18 movement was created in the memory of Omid Reza Mir Sayafi, an Iranian blogger and journalist, and marks the day he died earlier this year in Tehran's Evin Prison. Several months before, he was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for allegedly insulting religious leaders and engaging in "propaganda" against the Islamic Republic of Iran. The movement claims that Omid Reza was the first blogger to die in prison. It aims not only to ensure that Omid Reza is remembered, but also that other persecuted bloggers around the world do not disappear into interrogation rooms and prison cells. The March 18 movement seeks to become a voice for bloggers everywhere who are at risk of being crushed under the heavy machinery of repression. See their excellent debut clip on blogging and for blogging here.
