Soundslides: Iran Election Features Tackle Tough Issues

Kayvan Hosseini
Ahead of Iran's 11th presidential election June 14, RFE/RL's Radio Farda programs provided Iranians with unique, uncensored, multi-media coverage and debate of election-related issues and long-term institutional challenges.

In the months preceding the campaign, Radio Farda revisited the controversy that swirled around the 2009 presidential election with a series of programs on "The Victims of 88" -- the people who died protesting its controversial results. Radio Farda engaged with its Iranian audience over the air, over the phone and on-line to explore the viability of the Green movement, the increasingly anti-democratic trajectory of elections in Iran, the role of women in Iranian politics, and the dilemma facing voters of whether to participate in the polls or not. Radio Farda's Kayvan Hosseini discusses the central themes of this year's presidential vote.
