AfPak File Podcast: Assessing The First Days Of The US Withdrawal From Afghanistan

Afghanistan -- A US Marine carries his equipment as US troops arrive in Kandahar after their withdrawl from the Camp Bastion-Leatherneck complex in Helmand province on October 26, 2014.

U.S. forces have begun their final withdrawal from Afghanistan, which is expected to conclude by September. The first few days of the pullout have been turbulent, with Taliban rockets hitting a base housing US troops and US airstrikes targeting Taliban fighters.

The latest episode of The AfPak File takes stock of the withdrawal so far, with a particular focus on the logistical and security challenges, and reactions in Afghanistan.

Joining the discussion are Jonathan Schroden, director of CNA's Countering Threats and Challenges Program; Mariam Wardak, an Afghan-American journalist and activist; Mustafa Sarwar, a journalist with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's Azadi Radio; and Michael Kugelman, Asia Program deputy director and senior associate for South Asia at the Wilson Center.

Muhammad Tahir, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty's media manager in Washington DC, moderates the debate.
