AFGHANISTAN-CONFLICT/BARADAR

In recent days, reports have abounded of infighting within the Taliban, including alleged physical altercations.

These tensions are purportedly rooted in disagreements between Taliban hardliners and moderates about the composition of the new interim government.

What should we make of these reports? Is there potential for tensions within the Taliban? What would infighting mean for the group’s attempts to consolidate power, and for the future of the Taliban on the whole?

The latest episode of The AfPak File examines these questions and more. Joining the discussion are Haroun Rahimi, assistant professor of law at the American University of Afghanistan; Diva Patang, a PhD student and former Afghan journalist at Afghan national TV, RTA; and Michael Kugelman, senior associate for South Asia at the Wilson Center.

Muhammad Tahir, media manager with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, moderates the discussion.
