AfPak File Podcast: Why Are Afghanistan’s Hazaras Under Attack?

AFGHANISTAN-BLAST-SCHOOL

After a period of relative calm, terrorists have carried out a flurry of attacks in Afghanistan in recent days. Some of them have targeted Afghanistan’s Hazaras, which have long been one of the country’s most marginalized communities.

Why are they so frequently attacked by terrorists, why do they experienced such high levels of discrimination, and how have they responded to the pressures and dangers they face?

The latest episode of The AfPak File addresses these questions and more. Joining the debate are Tamim Asey, executive chairman of Afghanistan’s Institute of War and Peace Studies; Halima Kazem, a scholar of Afghanistan at the University of California-Santa Cruz; Sitarah Mohammadi, a Hazara advocate from Afghanistan and a Juris Doctor candidate in Melbourne, Australia; and Michael Kugelman, Asia Program deputy director and senior associate for South Asia at the Wilson Center.

Muhammad Tahir, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s media manager in DC, moderates the discussion.
