RFE/RL colleague Amanullah Amirzai, 56, died January 5, 2019 at his home in Prague, Czech Republic, following a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
Born in 1962 in Afghanistan, Amanullah graduated from the International School of Kabul, and received a scholarship in the 1980’s to study in Prague, Czech Republic at the Film Academy in Prague (FAMU), where he graduated with a Masters of Arts in Directing.
Amanullah went on to work for Nova TV, a well-known Czech TV station as a TV producer before joining RFE/RL’s Afghan service as a studio technician in 2002. He was promoted to the position of Senior Multimedia Producer in 2006.
Amanullah Amirzai is remembered by colleagues for always uplifting their spirits and working diligently as a team with fellow studio technicians. He was a peaceful and humble companion, ready to help everyone at all times.
Says Afghan Service Director Hashem Mohmand, "He had a constant smile, and radiated an energy that reached and will be missed by everyone. His demise is obviously a great loss for his family, as well as his friends and colleagues at RFE/RL."
