RFE/RL has just won a Gold and four Silver trophies at the 2014 Communicator Awards, the largest and most competitive awards program honoring creative excellence for communications professionals from around the globe. The winners were announced by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts on April 29.
The RFE/RL winners are:
Farshid Manafi, the moderator of Radio Farda's satirical program “Pas Farda,” who won the Gold Award of Excellence in the category "Programs - On Air Talent/Radio Personality," and a Silver Award of Distinction for the category "Programs- On Air Talent/Humor."
Belgrade-based Balkan Service reporter Milos Teodorovic, who won for his radio program "Gaf nedelje" (“Gaffe of the Week”), which employs humor to review the most interesting events of the week. Teodorovic took home a Silver Award of Distinction in the category for “Programs - Writing/Creative Concept.”
"Raising Julia," a video showing one day of the life of an girl who was adopted from Russia and now lives in the U.S. and was produced by Russian Service freelancer Olga Loginova. The video won a Silver Award of Distinction in the category "Online Video – Documentary."
A video report produced by the Belarus Service and the Multimedia Unit to mark the 50th anniversary of the assassination of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, "Oswald In Minsk.” The report won a Silver Award of Distinction in the category "Online Video – Other."
With more than 6000 entries received from across the United States and around the world, it's a great accomplishment for RFE/RL as a company to have five winning entries.
The Communicator Awards are judged and overseen by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA), a 600-plus member organization of leading professionals from various disciplines of the visual arts dedicated to embracing progress and the evolving nature of traditional and interactive media. Current IAVA membership represents a "Who's Who" of acclaimed media, advertising, and marketing firms including: AirType Studio, Condè Nast, Disney, Keller Crescent, Lockheed Martin, Monster.com, MTV, rabble+rouser, Time Inc., Tribal DDB, Yahoo!, and many others.
