On March 3, the Vaclav Havel Journalism Fellows visited Czech Radio, the Czech public radio broadcaster.
The fellows toured the newsroom and new broadcast studios, and met with senior managers, including Managing Editor Julie Stejskalova, Director of Current Affairs Petr Dudek, and editors from the news station Radiozurnal. The fellows and their hosts discussed international news coverage, and the uses and challenges of social media.
Following the tour, the fellows were interviewed about their work in Prague and the political situation in their home countries by the English and Russian services of Radio Prague, Czech Radio’s foreign news service, which broadcasts in six languages.
Czech Radio has been on the air since 1923, and currently broadcasts on 10 national and 13 regional stations.
The fellows will return to Czech Radio for targeted training sessions with Czech Radio journalists on topics including conducting interviews, covering foreign news, and new media tools.
