As the internet has become an increasingly important source of information, authorities in Belarus have used a variety of different means to control it. "Keeping a tight rein on information remains at the core of their policy of self-preservation," says the Index on Censorship in a new report, 'Belarus: Pulling the Plug.'
The report focuses on ways that on-line speech is restricted in Belarus, and suggests that the authorities plan to further strengthen controls on citizens' access to digital information.
