The New York-based media watchdog Committee To Protect Journalists (CPJ) has called on the Council of Europe to press Azerbaijan to respect rulings of the European Court of Human Rights exonerating prominent Azeri journalist Eynulla Fatullayev. CPJ and numerous other organizations say that Fatullayev was jailed in retaliation for criticizing the government's official probe into the 2005 murder of independent editor Elmar Huseynov.
