Nushabe Fatullayeva, a correspondent for RFE/RL's Azerbaijani service, was detained and ordered to erase a video tape of a street demonstration in front of President Ilham Aliyev's offices today.
Dozens of protestors gathered in front of the administration's offices to protest the felling of trees in their neighborhoods to make way for construction projects.
Presidential security guards approached Fatullayeva and, citing security concerns involving images of the presidential offices, insisted she erase her tape. Fatullayeva said that she had not filmed the facility, but only filmed the security guards who accosted her and ordered her to stop taping the protests. Fatullayeva was detained for nearly half an hour before being released.
