RFE/RL's Kazakh service, Radio Azattyq, has been nominated for General Excellence in Online Journalism in the "Non-English, Small Site" category of the 2009 Online Journalism Awards.
The awards are presented annually by the Online News Association in partnership with the School of Communication at the University of Miami. The finalists, which range from independent and nonprofit news and community sites to major media and international organizations, were selected last week by a team of 12 journalists from across the industry.
Radio Azattyq is competing against two other nominees in its category: Il Centro, a daily from the Abruzzo region of Italy, and lainformacion.com, a Spanish news website.
The winners will be announced at the 2009 ONA Conference and Online Journalism Awards Banquet on October 3.
