Mustafa Sarwar On The 2015 Refugee Crisis From An Afghan Perspective
RFE/RL Afghan Service journalist Mustafa Sarwar has published a chapter in the book Refugee News, Refugee Politics: Journalism, Public Opinion and Policymaking in Europe (name of publisher in parens, 2018). Sarwar's chapter, "Reporting Back to the Migrant Audience: Afghans' Exodus and Perilous Journey to Europe," provides an Afghan perspective on the refugee wave of 2015, describing some of the debates about the “exodus” among Afghans themselves and offering insights about missed opportunities in mainstream press coverage. Sarwar has reported extensively on issues related to Afghan refugees in Afghanistan and abroad, including a 2015 feature story on Afghan migrants on the Greek island of Kos that was picked up by Reuters and Canada's Global News Station. Sarwar is available for comment on migrant and refugee issues, security, and extremism in Afghanistan at sarwarm@rferl.org.
