Afghans Protest Violence Against Women

Afghanistan marks 94 years of independence from Britain on August 19, but as foreign military forces prepare to withdraw from the country at the end of 2014, Afghanistan remains marred by violence that threatens its stability and progress toward greater pluralism. Women, especially, face routine violence, repressive laws, and exclusion from the public sphere.

RFE/RL and Radio Azadi, reporting throughout Afghanistan, tell these women’s stories with insight on the issues that affect their lives. Here are some of the most compelling stories so far this year.
