Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s (RFE/RL) Ukrainian Service is celebrating the results of the contest Media Etc., the latest additions to its collection of recent journalistic awards.
Olga Komarova, a former participator in RFERL’s Regional Reporting Fellowship program, won Best Radio Report for her story Will Ukraine open for Belarus a route by river to the sea?. Journalist Marichka Naboka received a Special Mention from the jury for her video blog Youth Plus, which explores controversial topics and unusual stories in Ukraine.
Launched in 2016 by the Institute of Tax Reforms and Hromadske Radio, the competition recognizes journalists who write about economic issues and reform in Ukraine. The awards were announced at a ceremony in Kyiv on February 5, 2018.
Naboka is also the recipient of a Special Certificate earlier this year from the United Nation’s Publications For Change contest for her story, Is There Sexism In Ukraine? The same story was recognized by multiple national press organizations in September 2017. In an interview for RFE/RL’s Lady Liberty page about the winning story and gender relations in Ukraine, she said that prejudices persist at a “domestic, working, political, and even lexical level,” and are often unseen.
