Reporting to the Bureau Chief, and ultimately to the Service’s Director in Prague, the TV Producer takes lead in preparing and producing TV shows and promos of the highest editorial standards; manages relations with local TV partners and deals with all issues related to TV shows. TV Producer works closely with bureau and service management, and also with RFE/RL Marketing&Affiliates department to enhance TV projects. Responsible for all TV and video production of the service in broadcasting region: daily news videos, weekly TV programs, live coverage of events, production of video documentaries, etc.

 

Responsibilities:

  • TV Producer looks far ahead on the calendar for coverage and interview opportunities.
  • Presents coverage possibilities to the Managing Editors for discussion at the daily editorial meeting. Works with Futures and Special Events to create Special Event programming.
  • Responsible to stay on top of news and events, develops and cultivates extensive contacts, prepares information and data to enable high quality interview with guests and well known personalities. Also gather videos elements for use during associated interviews.
  • Performs related duties as needed. May act as substitute for other comparable roles e.g. video editing, line producing and even occasional hosting.
  • Analyzes the necessity of any changes in TV sets design, coordinates its development and communicates such changes to the RFE/RL’s Marketing & Affiliates department.
  • Conducts interviews in studios, by telephone, or in the field for TV, radio and web.
  • Contributes to preparation of relevant TV, radio and on-line promos (including cross promotions).
  • Is responsible for promoting Service’s web site on social networks and enriching the web content through offering new materials produced by Multimedia team.
  • Executes the teambuilding, training and development of young stringers.
  • Moderates, delivers live, records, edits TV shows, and contributes to the output for all major platforms. Puts pictures on-line as required.
  • Takes a leading role in TV programs and projects planning.
  • Takes an active part in the Service’s multimedia projects.
  • Manages relations with local TV partners in terms of payments, promos schedule and in general in terms of managing all issues connected with the TV shows.
  • Helps RFE/RL management in building good relations with the local TV affiliate(s).
  • Keeps control over all equipment both in the Multimedia studios and furniture and equipment in TV studios.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Competencies:

  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and demonstrate that s/he is results oriented. The candidate must be able to work closely with the Executive and other Producers and should also have the ability to stay on top of the news and events in the region. 
  • An interest in international events and politics and familiarity regarding the situations in RFE/RL's target countries is desirable.
  • Creative ability to enterprise and innovate in order to cultivate diverse contacts.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude, with excellent interpersonal skills are also needed to build positive relationships with team members as well as with external partners and outside broadcasters.
  • Must be well-read and keep up with the latest news developments and have the ability to write sophisticated letters to high profile guests requesting interviews.
  • Must have excellent research abilities and sound news judgment.

 

Languages:

  • Fluent proficiency in English, desirable.
  • Broadcast languages native level, mandatory.

Salaries for employees in RFE/RL's broadcast regions are competitive, based on prevailing local conditions. Employee benefits in RFE/RL's broadcast regions are in accordance with the local labor law specific to the country.
