The RFE/RL team in Riga, Latvia is looking for a Senior Digital Editor to join the Russian Service. Reporting to the Managing Editor you will acts as their deputy and assist them in implementing the team’s goals and objectives ensuring that all content meets RFE/RL editorial standards. You will guide content production as well as produce content both for the website and for direct distribution on social platforms and keep the team updated on trending topics and other potential stories discovered through social.

We are looking for a dedicated team player possessing excellent multitasking skills with little supervision, experience in digital journalism with strong news and editorial judgment and a broad knowledge of the broadcast area as well as international affairs (political, economic, and social situations).

 

What you’ll accomplish:

  • Coordinate assignments and edit work of the team; train new staff;
  • Provide oversight of content produced by social media and web teams;
  • Lead digital team’s coordination with other departments ensuring that web products meet highest industry standards;
  • Direct and plan graphic projects and oversee graphic artist for the digital team;
  • Produce original content in Russian both for the website and for native sharing on social media; mine the web for news leads and develop news stories;
  • Work with web-ready news and feature content mixing traditional story-forms with digital and social-centric reporting;
  • Work with web editors to promote original RFE/RL content across social media, advise social media editor on planning for social and digital coverage.

 

What you bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in digital journalism in a news organization together with experience of working in a multicultural/multinational environment or experience living and working abroad, preferably in relevant RFE/RL target region;
  • A degree in communication, journalism or related field or the equivalent in experience;
  • Working knowledge of social monitoring platforms like Tweetdeck, Topsy and Storyful;
  • Excellent writing skills in a news environment and demonstrated ability to work with social and digital media to both find content and disseminate it;
  • Flexibility with understanding and appreciating different and opposing perspectives on an issue, adaptability;
  • Ability to work under deadline;
  • Fluency in Russian - mandatory, proficiency in English is desirable.
