Regional Coordinating Producer, Kyiv

Reporting to the Chief Editor for News and Current Affairs, the Regional Coordinating Producer for the Coverage Desk liaises with production teams, correspondents and freelancers across most Ukrainian regions including Kyiv. The incumbent is an editor that supervises a team of reporters and is responsible for the editorial and visual accuracy of the production.

  • Acts as liaison with production teams, correspondents and freelancers in Kyiv and in the regions of Ukraine, participates in relevant production planning meetings as required.
  • Manages field trips logistics, production schedules; works with correspondents to send information inquiries to ensure balanced reporting.
  • Supervises a team of reporters, managing the team's work activities, and setting objectives.
  • Develops and maintains an expanded and up-to-date database of highly qualified freelancers in the regions of Ukraine for cooperation with them.
  • Checks for facts, style, and thoroughness of reporting. Checks each finished piece for editorial quality, accuracy, double-checks script accuracy.
  • Adheres to RFE/RL editorial standards at all times. Exercises sound editorial judgement.
  • Supervises production for editorial and visual accuracy.
  • Follows pre-scheduled events to best accomplish scheduled tasks and cover special events. Monitors events and trends in Kyiv and in the regions of Ukraine to cover them on various platforms
  • Exercises excellent news judgment. Responds quickly to developing news in order to find the most appropriate angle for submission on various platforms
  • Participates in the editorial and planning meetings as required, offering creative, well-researched ideas.
  • Provides training to junior or less experienced reporters to improve the quality of reporting.
  • Explores innovative angles for coverage, ensuring relevance to audiences and exemplifying best journalistic practice.
  • Responds with flexibility to the location and time demands of journalistic work.
  • Produces quality work right the first time round.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in journalism, mass communications, international relations, or related field or the equivalent in experience.

Work Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience as a journalist
  • 3+ years experience in TV production
  • Substantial editorial experience in international media.
  • History of successful handling of progressively challenging assignments.

Competencies:

  • Must have excellent research abilities and sound editorial judgment.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Well-organized, with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and effectively prioritize workload.
  • An interest in international events and politics and familiarity regarding the situations in RFE/RL's target countries is desirable.
  • Creative ability to enterprise and innovate in order to cultivate diverse contacts.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude, with excellent interpersonal skills are also needed to build positive relationships with team members as well as with external partners and outside broadcasters.
  • Must be well-read and keep up with the latest news developments and have the ability to write sophisticated letters to high profile guests requesting interviews.

  • Ukrainian language, proficient level, mandatory
