As authoritarian governments around the world crack down on free press and spread disinformation, RFE/RL’s mission – independent media in places where they are banned by the government or not yet established – is more critical than ever.

 

What does the role entail?

 

Reporting to the Director of Audience and Growth and closely partnering with other colleagues in the Innovation & Audience Engagement division you will be the key point of contact on audience research and digital performance at RFE/RL.

 

Among other responsibilities you will:

 

  • respond to in-house requests for data and analysis;
  • assist Riga-based journalists to make full use of available audience research and digital analytics;
  • prepare reports and other analyses;
  • distribute and archive audience research reports;
  • collect and distribute digital performance measurements obtained through clickstream metrics, including reporting results and mentor staff on the usage of clickstream metrics;
  • help language services follow conversations on social media and track performance of key competitors.
  • contribute to the planning of major projects based on data insights from earlier projects, SEO and social data insights etc.

 

The successful candidate will have:

 

  • Master’s degree in Mass communications research or related field
  • Experience in:
  1. media research or/and digital journalism
  2. using website analytics tools, ideally Adobe Analytics
  3. using tools like Chartbeat, Tweetdeck, Crowdtangle, Hootsuite, Emplifi (Socialbakers) to analyze digital performance
  • Familiarity with metrics across platforms (site, social media, subscriptions, video, audio)
  • Awareness of best practices of audience growth and development
  • Ability to work with large databases of statistical and other information and to extract information for requested reports
  • Relevant software knowledge (SPSS desirable)
  • Presentation skills
  • Proficiency in English (in addition - Russian language knowledge - preferred) 
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Broad knowledge of political, economic, and social situations and international affairs acquired through studies, research, writing, travel, or other relevant experience or exposure
