WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT IN THIS ROLE?

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a liaison between the News Division and other RFE/RL divisions and departments. Acts as a project administrator/task manager, documenting decision-making, tracking progress on action items, helping to set and adhere to strategic deadlines, and proposing changes or revisions to ensure desired objectives are achieved in a timely and successful fashion. 
  • Taking a lead role in managing communications, information, and document retention for the office of the Head of News & Editor in Chief. Ensures an up-to-date central database of all strategic plans, operational budgets, service evaluations, and other documents used over the course of the fiscal year for strategic decision-making. 
  • Independently manages and implements complex projects per request by the Head of News & Editor in Chief. In this capacity, the incumbent must coordinate with relevant RFE/RL staff and departments as needed to ensure that all projects are completed in a timely and satisfactory way and adhere to applicable rules of compliance, legal regulations, and policy guidelines. The incumbent must demonstrate sufficiently strong writing skills to be able to draft letters, memos, and other written communication with little to no editing required. Based on a detailed knowledge of the objectives of the VP, Head of News & Editor in Chief carries out program activities, operational plans, and administrative plans as directed. Research matters, evaluates facts and alternatives, and makes recommendations for a specific course of action. Trouble shoots across departments as needed and actively works to solve problems in a timely fashion.

 

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

 

You are the perfect match for this job if you are…

  • detail-oriented, discreet, efficient, proactive, a polished communicator, plus technically and administratively astute.
  • able to discreetly handle confidential information and documents. 
  • familiar with RFE/RL’s work, mission, basic knowledge of RFE/RL’s budget process and organizational structure is preferred. Additionally, you will need:
    • At least five years’ experience supporting Senior Leadership in a complex, multinational organization is mandatory.
    • Experience coordinating project work for either an Executive, Director or Senior Manager while working in an NGO, non-profit or USG institution is preferred.
    • Excellent presentation skills and strong communication skills.
    • Strong planning, writing, analytical, and organization skills.
    • Proven experience in administration and working with budgets.
    • Demonstrated experience in report writing and editing, mandatory.
    • Experience working in a multicultural or a multinational environment; or experience living and working outside own country, preferably in one of the RFE/RL target regions.
    • Experience working with corporate teams and/or senior managers, mandatory.
    • Proficiency in written and oral English (1st language ability), mandatory.
    • Proficiency in target region languages (e.g. Russian, Farsi, etc.) is desirable, but not required.

Appointment against this post is on a local basis only. Please note that for the locally advertised positions preference will be given to those with a work permit and/or a valid residence status in the Czech Republic. Locally recruited employees should reside within commuting distance of Prague, Czech Republic, or be willing to move to take up work. Salary scales for locally recruited employees are based on the best prevailing local conditions. RFE/RL does, however, cover the costs of interview travel and, upon appointment, some relocation costs.
