Pangea DevOps Engineer Lead 

 

Lead the Pangea DevOps Team, establishing policies, practices, and a framework for how DevOps will work now and in the future. The Lead will be responsible for the technical strategy of Pangea’s DevOps infrastructure - designing, deploying, automating, maintaining, and improving DevOps principles, standards and systems that keep the Pangea backend infrastructure and code delivery running smoothly. This role requires management experience, hands-on technical experience and a can-do approach working with cross-functional teams. The Pangea DevOps Engineer Lead will also work with all Engineers to understand pain points and find a balance in the “now” vs the “future,” while also proposing foundational DevOps decisions and creating effective structures. 

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Responsible for the technical strategy, management, and maintenance of Pangea’s DevOps infrastructure. 

  • Manages the team of DevOps professionals within Pangea Digital. 

  • Develops and maintains the digital infrastructure, automating CI/CD workflows to improve efficiency while reducing risk of Pangea’s software release processes. 

  • Responsible for monitoring Pangea’s digital architecture, checking for performance, SLA compliance, and infrastructure stability. 

  • Leads by doing. Ensures that knowledge is shared and transferred, building a strong DevOps team. 

  • Approaches CI/CD and release engineering from an automation and software engineering perspective so that Pangea Software Engineers are enabled to safely release their own services across environments. 

  • Trains team members in diagnosing issues with their deployments. 

  • Moves us forward by evaluating and implementing tools for our delivery pipeline. 

  • Collaborates with development teams and provides supporting infrastructure for the building of websites, applications, and software pieces. 

  • Builds frameworks for software and application deployment.  

  • Liaise closely with both development and operational teams.  

  • Stay on top of industry best practices and trends, as well as changes to compliance requirements.

Minimum Qualifications  

 

Education:  

  • Combination of education and experience. 

  • Information technology or related field BA - Bachelor’s degree (Mandatory). 

 

Work Experience:  

  • Experience in the relevant technical discipline 5-7 years (Mandatory). 

 

Competencies:  

  • Extensive knowledge of at least one “mainstream” development language, with C# or NodeJS being preferred.  

  • Deep knowledge of modern operations, deployment practices, technologies, and infrastructure systems - including Linux systems, Docker / content containers, REDIS, RABBITMQ, GLUSTERFS, and SQL SERVER. Tanzu a plus.  

  • Expertise in configuring and troubleshooting application code running in a container orchestration environment, Kubernetes preferred.  

  • Experience with centralized monitoring tools such as ELK (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), Nagios, Zabbix and container system and application metrics (such as PROMETHEUS / GRAFANA). 

  • Expertise in CI /CD automation build system tools and frameworks such as Jenkins, CIRCLE CI, Azure DEVOPS or similar. 

  • Experience with infrastructure automation and delivery tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef or Saltstack. 

  • Experience with code analysis tools such as SonarQube, HP Fortify. 

  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as UNIX shell, PowerShell and Groovy. 

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of PKI implementation (server side).  

  • Familiar with networking and cloud infrastructure services, including content distribution networks, load balancing and virtual computing (nginx, varnish, squid, haproxy). 

  • Used agile development such as Scrum or Kanban, with the Atlassian stack (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence) as management SW preferred. 

  • Experience coaching and supporting other engineers.  

  • Work independently with high level objectives and minimal supervision.  

 

Languages:  

  • Czech language Working Knowledge Oral + Written (Desirable). 

  • English language Proficient (Mandatory).
